A statistic of fires in 2022 in Romania

O statistică a incendiilor din anul 2022 în România

In 2022, Romania faced major economic and social challenges, amplified by the impact of the war in Ukraine and rising inflation. Energy and food prices increased significantly, affecting the purchasing power of the population. The government implemented measures to support vulnerable citizens, but social discontent intensified. At the same time, Romania continued its efforts to modernize its infrastructure and was actively involved in supporting Ukrainian refugees, providing them with shelter and humanitarian aid.

In this difficult socio-economic context, it is important to also discuss the fires that have occurred at the national level.

In 2022, Romania recorded a total of 19,462 fires, according to the data presented in the table. The most common cause of fires was faulty or improvised electrical installations, generating 5,050 interventions, which represents approximately 25.95% of all fires. This highlights a major problem related to unsafe or poorly maintained electrical infrastructure, which requires urgent prevention and education measures for the population.

Another important cause is the improper use of heating means, such as improvised or unattended ones, which led to 1,294 fires (6.65% of the total). Also, faulty or uncleaned chimneys caused 2,937 fires, i.e. 15.09% of the total, highlighting the importance of regular checking and maintenance of heating systems.

Open fires were responsible for 3,824 fires, representing almost 20% of all incidents, indicating the risks of careless association with fire sources. Other significant causes include smoking (9.15% of fires), intentional actions (6.76%) and handling ashes or sparks from heating systems (3.66%).

These data highlight the need for stricter preventive measures and increased public awareness of the risks associated with different activities that can lead to fires. They also highlight the importance of investments in infrastructure, as well as education and training to reduce the number of such incidents.
